From late May to early July, we are inviting individuals to organize and attend Eclipse DemoCamps around the world to celebrate the Helios release at the end of June. The Eclipse DemoCamps are an opportunity to showcase all of the cool technology being built by the Eclipse community. They are also an opportunity for you to meet Eclipse enthusiasts in your city.

A DemoCamp is an informal event for a group of Eclipse enthusiasts to meet up and demo what they are doing with Eclipse. The demos can be of research projects, Eclipse open source projects, applications based on Eclipse, commercial products using Eclipse or whatever you think might be of interest to the attendees. The only stipulation is that it must be Eclipse related. We especially want to hear about your work with Helios projects!

Op woensdag 2 juni organiseert de FLUGR in samenwerking met QNH de workshop “Creating a Flex application with the Swiz framework”.

Tijdens deze professionele workshop wordt er een Flex applicatie ontwikkeld op basis van het Swiz framework (http://swizframework.org).

Swiz is een microarchitectuur framework en dependency injection container voor Flex applicaties.

Tijdens de ontwikkeling van de applicatie volgen we best practices welke zijn voortgekomen uit ervaringen uit de praktijk.

Ook wordt er stilgestaan bij het waarom van bepaalde keuzes.

Na het volgen van de workshop ben je in staat om een Flex applicatie te ontwikkelen met het Swiz framework.

De agenda ziet er als volgt uit:
15:00 – 15:30 ontvangst en voorbereiding
15:30 – 18:30 workshop
18:30 – 19:00 Afsluiting + eten

De kosten voor de workshop bedragen 69,- Euro. Wees er wel snel bij want het aantal plaatsen is beperkt. Na bevestiging van je inschrijving ontvang je de details over de voorbereiding. Een eigen laptop is hierbij noodzakelijk.

De NLJUG organiseert in samenwerking met Ordina op dinsdag 15 juni a.s. een masterclass met Robert C. Martin, beter bekend als Uncle Bob. Gedurende de hele dag zal hij diverse onderwerpen behandelen, van Agile development tot OO-design en Clean Code.

Over Robert C. Martin
Robert C. Martin, founder en CEO van het bedrijf Object Mentor Incorporated, gaat de hele wereld over om software consultancy te doen en spreekt op vele conferenties. Als programmeur heeft hij sinds 1970 ervaring met OO-design, eerst met C++ en later voornamelijk met Java.

Begin 2001 was hij, samen met Martin Fowler en Alistair Cockburn, één van de leiders van de Agile Software Development-beweging. Bij een door hem georganizeerd evenement in Utah is het Manifesto for Agile Software Development geschreven, het begin van de term agile. Zijn ervaringen met agile development zijn beschreven in het bekende boek "Agile Software Development: Principles, Patterns and Practices". Tegenwoordig is hij de voorman van de 'Craftsmanship'-beweging, waar mooi en goed programmeren wordt verheven tot een ambacht. Dit komt ook naar voren in zijn laatste boek "Clean Code: A handbook for Agile Software Craftsmanship" waarin hij op een luchtige manier uitlegt hoe je mooie onderhoudbare code moet schrijven.

Programma

9:00-11:30. The S.O.L.I.D. Principles of OO and Agile Design
What happens to software?  Why does it rot over time?  How does an Agile development team prevent this rot and prevent good designs from becoming legacy code? How can we be sure our designs are good in the first place? This class presents the agile S.O.L.I.D. principles for designing object oriented class structures. These principles govern the structure and interdependencies between classes in large object oriented systems. The principles include: The Open Closed Principle, The Liskov Substitution Principle and the Dependency Inversion Principle among others.    

13:00-14:30. Agile and The Object Oriented Principle of Component Design
How do you manage the structure of large agile and object oriented systems? What is the best way to break that structure into components? What should the components contain, and how should they be interrelated? How can we effectively partition a system into independently deployable components? This course teaches the 6 principles of object oriented component design. The 1st three are principles of component cohesion, which discuss the rules for how classes should be allocated to components. The 2nd are principles of component coupling, which discuss how components should be related to one another. Principles include “The Common Closure Principle, the Stable Dependencies Principle, and the Acyclic Dependencies Principle, among others.

15:00-16:30. Clean Code: Functions
Get ready for a challenge as Robert Martin dives deep into the topic of clean Java code by examining what makes a good function. In this part of the masterclass you will look at a lot of code; some good and some bad. You will experience how such bad code is analyzed, critiqued, and eventually refactored. You will understand the decisions made by an expert in the field, as bad code is gradually transformed into good code. How big should a function be? How should it be named? How should it be documented. How many indent levels should it have? How should it deal with exceptions, arguments, and return values. This part is all about code at the lowest level. And yet the principles and techniques presented have far reaching implications.
