Mobile Service Architecture (MSA)
Nokia and Vodafone recently announced the formation of a Mobile Service Architecture initiative (MSA). The initiative will function and create its specifications within the Java Community Process (JCP). JSRs, 248 and 249, will not introduce any new API specifications but will include a number of new component JSRs and clarifications to existing specifications to define a consistent Java API services architecture. This will enable application compatibility across multi-vendor mobile devices.
For developers, this initiative will accelerate and facilitate creation of mobile applications by providing a uniform end-to-end architecture that includes a compatible programming environment and platform functionality. The management framework of the mobile service architecture will allow developers to create applications as simple, interoperable, sharable components that can be dynamically deployed.
